The short version: we count visits using privacy-first, cookieless analytics. No cookies, no personal data, no ads, and no following you around the web.

Analytics — what we measure

To understand roughly how many people use EdFringeNow, we use Cloudflare Web Analytics — a privacy-first tool chosen precisely because it doesn't use cookies, doesn't store personal data, and can't identify you or follow you to other sites. It records anonymous, aggregate signals only: page views, the referring site, and a broad region worked out from your request (your IP address is used to derive that, but is never stored).

So this site is not analytics-free, and we would rather say so plainly than imply otherwise: we do count visits. What we don't do is build a picture of you. There is no cross-site tracking and no advertising profile — which is also why there's no cookie-consent banner to click through.

What we don't do

We don't sell your data, and we don't track you across the web. No ads. No advertising trackers. No cookies set by us. No accounts and no sign-up.

EdFringeNow runs in your browser. Almost everything is static pages and data files, with no server of ours behind them. The two exceptions are flight prices and the country guessed for public holidays, both below — and beyond those and the anonymous, aggregate analytics described above, there is nothing about you for us to log or keep.

Flight prices

If you tell the festival planner you are flying in, it asks our own small server for the cheapest flights on your trip's first and last day. What it sends is only the airport or city code you fly from, the festival's airport, the day and a currency — never your location, your plan or anything that identifies you. Our server passes that question to Travelpayouts (the partner behind Aviasales) and keeps nothing. Following a flight link takes you to Aviasales, which may pay us a referral if you book.

Your location

If you allow location access, your position is used only in your browser to work out which shows are near you. It is never sent to us or to anyone else. Deny it and the app simply falls back to central Edinburgh — everything still works.

Your country, for public holidays

The festival planner marks the public holidays of the country you live in on its year strip. Until you tell it where you come from, it asks our own small server which country your connection comes from. Our server reads that from the country Cloudflare's network already attaches to your request (worked out from your IP address), answers with the two-letter country and nothing else, and keeps nothing. The holiday dates themselves are plain files served from this site.

What your browser loads

Like any web page, opening EdFringeNow fetches a few files from other services. Those services see your IP address and browser as part of a normal web request, the same as visiting any website:

• Map tiles from OpenStreetMap.
• The map library (unpkg) and typefaces (Google Fonts) from their content delivery networks.
• The privacy-first analytics beacon (a small script) from Cloudflare.
• Show pictures, from the festival's own website, when a planner shows one. They are fetched without telling that site which page you came from.

The show and venue listings are plain files served from this site. They describe the festival, not you.

Links out

Map links, the planner's car-hire search among them, open Google Maps; ticket links open the festival's box office; the planner's travel and stay links open the partner they name. Once you follow a link, that site's own privacy policy applies — not this one.
